Gunmen kill two Chinese nationals, policeman in Abia, six others rescued

An ambush by unidentified gunmen in Abia State has left two Chinese workers and a police officer dead, according to authorities.

The incident took place on April 4, 2025, while the victims were travelling to a company site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, located in the Uturu area of Isuikwuato Local Government.

DSP Maureen Chinaka, spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, confirmed the deaths in a statement released on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa.

Those killed were identified as Mr. Quan, a company manager; Mr. Cai, his colleague; and Inspector Audu Saidu, who was part of the police escort. The attackers also made away with Inspector Saidu’s firearm.

Despite the tragic loss, four Chinese nationals and two police officers were successfully rescued in a joint security operation involving the police, military, and other agencies.

One of the expatriates sustained injuries during the attack, while Inspector Uba Ahmed was shot in the leg. Both are undergoing treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Abakaliki.

Additional security operatives, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), visited the crime scene on April 5 as part of ongoing investigations and search efforts.

Another police officer, Inspector Ijeagwa Friday, was also rescued unharmed during the follow-up operations.

Commissioner Isa condemned the incident and assured residents that those responsible will face justice. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activity.
