FRSC hands over N10m worth of recovered goods to accident victims’ families in Ondo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State has returned goods estimated at over N10 million to the families of individuals involved in a recent road accident.

The items were retrieved from the scene of a crash that occurred on March 23 near a checkpoint in Igbara-Oke, located in the Ifedore Local Government Area of the state.

During the handover event held on Saturday in Akure, FRSC Sector Commander Dr. Samuel Ibitoye emphasized that the act reflected the Corps’ dedication to accountability and moral standards.

He noted that the incident involved a collision between a commercial bus and a trailer, which was caused by excessive speeding, resulting in a rear-end crash.

While no lives were lost, both the driver of the bus and his assistant sustained serious injuries to their limbs.

Dr. Ibitoye said the recovered goods—including bags of textiles and other valuable items—were en route from Kano to Ibadan. The items were handed over to the victims’ union representative.

“Our operations are built on trust,” he said. “Anything found at an accident site is returned to the owners or their next of kin. We don’t keep anything, no matter how small.”

He also urged motorists, particularly long-distance drivers, to avoid reckless driving, refrain from overloading, and take breaks to avoid fatigue-related incidents.

Receiving the items, Mr. Rabiu Subaru, head of the Hummer Bus, Trailer, and J5 Unit at Shasha Park in Akure, expressed deep appreciation for the FRSC’s integrity and assistance.

He confirmed that the injured driver and assistant received initial treatment in Akure before being transferred to Gombe State for further care.

He also acknowledged that the FRSC covered their initial medical expenses and stood by them until their families arrived.

“All the goods were returned to me exactly as received—no one demanded a kobo from me,” Subaru added.
