FERA criticizes Peter Obi’s evaluation of Tinubu’s administration

The Forum of Economic Rights Activists (FERA) has expressed disagreement with comments made by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, regarding President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

In recent interviews, Obi has been critical of Tinubu’s leadership, claiming that Nigeria’s democracy is deteriorating under his governance and that the president’s economic policies have been ineffective.

However, in a statement released on Friday, Moses Okino, president of FERA, refuted Obi’s claims, particularly regarding the administration’s economic initiatives.

Okino argued that Obi’s assessment fails to recognize the positive impact of ongoing reforms, particularly the removal of fuel subsidies, which he described as a necessary step in addressing long-standing economic challenges.

Okino also rebuked Obi’s stance on anti-corruption efforts, asserting that the current administration has made tangible progress in areas that Obi had criticized.

The FERA president dismissed Obi’s criticisms as “misleading” and “inaccurate,” accusing him of intentionally misrepresenting facts to fit his own narrative.

In his statement, Okino called on Nigerians to carefully evaluate political statements and historical records as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

“It is crucial for the electorate to make decisions based on a comprehensive understanding of past leadership and current political discourse,” the statement emphasized.

Okino also urged politicians to engage with the public in a transparent and constructive manner as Nigeria faces ongoing political and economic challenges.
