The Lagos State Police Command has issued a nationwide alert, advising all officers within its jurisdiction about a scheduled protest set for April 7, 2025.
According to a report from the police, intelligence suggests that various groups, disguised as civil society organizations (CSOs), are preparing to mobilize demonstrations across the country.
The planned protests, the police claim, are motivated by grievances related to the escalating cost of living and the suppression of free speech by the government.
A circular signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Tijani O. Fatai highlighted that these groups have been actively using social media to spread narratives that criticize the government and rally support for their cause.
“Intelligence reports indicate that subversive groups, posing as CSOs, are organizing a nationwide protest to bring attention to the high cost of living and government repression of free speech,” the circular stated.
It also warned that criminals might attempt to hijack the protests, potentially targeting government facilities and opposition leaders, threatening the stability of the state.
In response, the police have ordered enhanced security measures around critical infrastructures, including government buildings, media houses, and transportation hubs, to prevent any disruptions or criminal activities during the protest.
