Again herdsmen strike Benue community, behead security guard

Must read

Tension escalated in Benue State late Friday as suspected herdsmen reportedly killed a security guard stationed at the Otobi Dam in Otukpo Local Government Area.

This tragic event is the latest in a string of violent attacks that have rocked communities in Otukpo in recent weeks.

Angbo Kennedy, a member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Otukpo/Akpa Constituency, confirmed the killing and voiced frustration over the persistent insecurity.

“This is getting out of hand. A guard has just been murdered at Otobi Dam this evening.

“We need to look out for one another—this may come down to self-defence,” he said.

Authorities have yet to identify the deceased, and no suspects have been apprehended at the time of this report.

Local residents have renewed calls for the state government and security forces to boost their presence, especially around critical locations such as the Otobi Dam.

The murder follows a string of earlier incidents in the Okpomaju, Okete, and Asa communities, which have seen deadly attacks and forced displacements.

Just a day before, gunmen reportedly attacked a Benue Links bus, killing two and abducting 13 passengers.
