Peter Obi criticizes Bokkos massacre, urges govt to take decisive action

Must read

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity in Nigeria, following the brutal attack on communities in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Armed assailants stormed five villages in the area on the night of Wednesday, April 2, 2025, killing at least 10 people.

By the following day, the death toll had risen to over 40 as more bodies were discovered.

Reacting to the incident, Obi strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “senseless massacre” that has left families devastated.

“I woke up this morning to yet another horrifying and heartbreaking report from Bokkos, Plateau State. Entire families have been wiped out in another mindless assault. Children and pregnant women were not spared,” Obi lamented.

He highlighted the affected communities—Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai—stating that they have been left in mourning, forced to bury their loved ones in mass graves.

Obi questioned the government’s inaction, asking, “How much longer will these killings, kidnappings, and acts of terror continue in a country that is not at war? How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken?”

The former Anambra State governor decried the growing normalization of violence in Nigeria, noting that citizens now live in constant fear.

“We have reached a point where mass killings and mass burials have become commonplace. Every Nigerian life is valuable, whether in Edo, Benue, Enugu, Borno, Anambra, Ondo, or Plateau,” he stated.

He also called for increased security measures, emphasizing that communities like Bokkos in Plateau, Jato-Aka in Benue, Eha-Amufu in Enugu, Ufuma in Anambra, and Aba Oyinbo in Ondo deserve full government protection.

Obi urged the Federal Government to take immediate steps to end the violence, ensure justice for the victims, and implement measures to prevent further attacks.

“These tragedies must not continue. The government and security agencies must act decisively to put an end to these killings, take concrete steps to prevent future attacks, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he declared.
