Former Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to individuals and groups who stood by the Ortom family during the burial rites of his late younger brother, Bernard Tyozenda Ortom.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 4, 2025, and signed by his media aide, Terver Akase, Ortom said the overwhelming support and expressions of sympathy brought immense comfort to his family in their time of grief.

“The outpouring of support and compassion from various individuals and groups was a source of immense comfort during our time of grief,” Ortom stated.

He gave special thanks to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator (Dr.) George Akume; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and the three Senators representing Benue State – Barr. Emmanuel Udende, Dr. Titus Zam, and Senator Patrick Abba Moro – for their presence at the funeral.

Ortom also acknowledged the solidarity shown by members of the G-5, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Abia State Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

“It was deeply touching to witness the presence of leaders from across the political divide who honoured Bernard and showed love to our family,” he said.

Gratitude was also extended to members of the National Assembly from Benue, particularly Rt. Hon. Dickson Tarkighir and Hon. Ojema Ojotu, as well as members of the Benue State House of Assembly.

Ortom appreciated the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, led by Hon. Ezekiel Adaji, traditional rulers, and the clergy, including the Bishop of Makurdi Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Wilfred Anagbe, and the parishioners of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Nyorgyungu, and St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Gbajimba.

The former governor also recognized the numerous friends, political associates, and well-wishers from within and outside the country who offered their support.

“May God Almighty reward everyone abundantly,” Ortom prayed.
