Labour Party refutes claims of Supreme Court ruling on Julius Abure

The Labour Party has dismissed rumours suggesting that a Supreme Court verdict had invalidated Julius Abure’s position as the party’s National Chairman. The party clarified that these reports are entirely false.

In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, the National Publicity Secretary, provided clarity on the matter, emphasizing that the Supreme Court’s recent ruling had no effect on the party’s leadership.

“The ruling made clear that the suits filed by Nenadi and Abure were dismissed, and only political parties have the right to determine their leadership,” Abayomi stated.

He further stressed that the judiciary should not intervene in the internal affairs of political parties.

The Labour Party confirmed that the Supreme Court upheld previous decisions from both the trial court and the Court of Appeal.

These courts had ruled that the trial court had exceeded its jurisdiction by addressing the leadership issue.

Abayomi reinforced that the Labour Party had followed its constitution during the election of Julius Abure as National Chairman and Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim as National Secretary.

Therefore, the leadership positions remain valid and legally recognized.
