Court halts pro-Wike rally in Bayelsa

Must read

A High Court in Bayelsa State has issued an interim order stopping allies of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, from holding a planned mega rally in Yenagoa on April 12, 2025.

Justice I. A. Uzakah granted the order on Thursday in response to a motion ex-parte filed by the state’s Attorney General, Biriyai Dambo (SAN), in Suit No. BYHC/YHC/CV/133/2025.

The lead convener of the rally, George Turnah, and Wike were named as the first and second defendants in the case.

Also listed as defendants were the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police.

The court’s ruling restrains the defendants and their associates from organizing, hosting, or participating in any political gathering in Bayelsa State until a motion for an interlocutory injunction is heard and determined.

The case has been adjourned until April 11, 2025, for hearing.
