Court bans media comments in Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suit against Akpabio

Must read

The Federal High Court in Abuja has barred all parties involved in Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s lawsuit against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and three others from addressing the media about the ongoing legal matter.

Justice Binta Nyako issued the directive on Friday after Akpabio’s lead counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), raised concerns about the senator’s media engagements.

According to him, Akpoti-Uduaghan had been granting television interviews despite the matter being sub judice.

In response, Justice Nyako ruled that neither the parties involved nor their legal representatives should speak to the press about the case.

She also prohibited the broadcast or live streaming of the court proceedings on any social media platforms.

The case, initially handled by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, was transferred to Justice Nyako following his withdrawal on March 25, 2025.

Justice Egwuatu recused himself after the Senate President, who is the third defendant in the case, raised allegations of bias.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central and is currently under suspension, filed the suit to challenge the Senate’s disciplinary inquiry into her conduct during a plenary session on February 20, 2025.

She is also seeking to halt the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions from proceeding with its investigations.
