Wike opens up on collapsing, airlifted to France for medical attention

Must read

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that he collapsed and was airlifted to France for medical attention.

He described the speculation as false and politically motivated.

Speaking on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing projects in Abuja, Wike dismissed the rumours, emphasizing that he remains actively engaged in his ministerial duties.

“I am not a ghost; I am a human being. If someone collapses, it is a human being that collapses. But the truth is, I never collapsed,” he stated.

He further clarified that he had attended public engagements, including leading Abuja residents to the Presidential Villa and participating in an Iftar dinner hosted by the President.

The Minister alleged that political opponents were behind the misinformation to divert public attention from more pressing national matters.

FCT projects on track despite distractions

Despite the controversy, Wike assured that major infrastructure projects in Abuja are progressing smoothly and remain on schedule for completion as part of President Bola Tinubu’s second-anniversary initiatives.

He expressed confidence in the contractors, commending them for adhering to timelines and maintaining quality standards.

“I am very satisfied with the progress. The contractors trust us because we are keeping up with funding commitments,” he said.

Wike also stressed the importance of tax compliance, urging residents and businesses to fulfil their obligations since ongoing developments are funded by taxpayers’ money.

The Minister reiterated his commitment to infrastructural transformation under the President’s Renewed Hope agenda, stating that he would not allow political distractions to derail his objectives.

“Our priority remains delivering world-class projects for Abuja residents,” he affirmed.

Accompanied by Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, FCDA officials, and other key stakeholders, Wike inspected the projects, ensuring that Abuja remains a benchmark for urban development in Africa.
