Obi of Onitsha denies issuing warning to Northern youths over killing of hunters in Edo

The Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, has refuted claims that he issued a warning to northern youths over the killing of hunters in Edo State.

This follows alleged reports suggesting the monarch cautioned northerners against launching reprisal attacks on Igbos in response to the deaths of 16 hunters.

In a statement released on Thursday, his Chief of Staff, Osita Anionwu, clarified that the Obi had made no such statement regarding the incident.

He labeled the claim as “inaccurate” and “inflammatory,” urging the public to ignore the false report.

“The Palace of the Obi of Onitsha wishes to inform the public that His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi), has not made any comments regarding the recent killings in Edo State,” the statement said.

“Additionally, no warnings have been issued by him on the matter. This is yet another case of fake statements being wrongly attributed to His Majesty, seemingly to cause division.”

The palace urged people to reject the fabricated claims and instead focus on promoting unity and peace.

“As a steadfast advocate for harmony among Nigerians, His Majesty remains dedicated to fostering mutual respect and cooperation among all ethnic and regional groups. Let us work together to build bridges, not walls,” the statement concluded.
