Nigeria made serious errors in handling Boko Haram – Gov Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has stated that Nigeria made a critical mistake by allowing Boko Haram and other non-state actors to operate with capabilities that sometimes rival those of the country’s security forces.

Speaking on Wednesday at the unveiling of attack Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the testing of locally-produced bombs at the headquarters of Briech UAS in Kuje, Abuja, Mutfwang emphasized the need to ensure that no group within Nigeria possesses military strength comparable to or greater than that of the nation’s security agencies.

Briech UAS, a Nigerian technology company specializing in drone production, showcased its innovations at the event, which was attended by key stakeholders.

“I want to first appreciate the Nigerian armed forces for their efforts in securing our nation. However, we made a serious mistake as a country by allowing non-state actors to acquire military capabilities that sometimes threaten those of the government. It is time to correct that,” Mutfwang stated.

“We must ensure that no individual or group within our borders operates with the kind of firepower that challenges, let alone surpasses, that of those entrusted with protecting our national sovereignty. That is why I welcome this initiative, which allows us to acquire strategic and advanced technology without external conditions,” he added.

The governor further highlighted the importance of collaborating with local security technology firms to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers and avoid bureaucratic delays in acquiring essential defense equipment.
