Lagos govt seals Lekki mall, detains 24 for defying state regulations

The Lagos State Government has closed down Westbrook Mall in Lekki and detained 24 individuals for violating official directives, according to Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Wahab disclosed that the mall’s management had previously ignored state regulations twice.

Despite earlier enforcement actions and warnings, the facility continued operations in defiance of government orders.

To address these repeated violations, a joint enforcement team from the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LSWMO) and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) conducted a raid on Thursday, April 3, 2025.

During the operation, 24 individuals were apprehended and are set to face prosecution. The mall was also resealed to prevent further unauthorized activities.

Wahab further stated that the mall’s management would be mandated to pay all applicable fines in accordance with Lagos State laws.

Reaffirming its commitment to regulatory compliance, the state government warned businesses against disregarding established environmental and operational guidelines.
