At least 10 people have been killed in a fresh attack on five villages in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, heightening tensions in the region.
The attack, which occurred on April 2, comes just days after gunmen invaded Ruwi community, killing 10 people and injuring three others during a wake-keep.
Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), Farmasum Fuddang, confirmed the incident on Thursday, describing how the assailants moved through multiple villages.
“Armed attackers struck Mongor first but were repelled by security forces. They then targeted Daffo, where security again intervened.
“Undeterred, they moved on to Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, unleashing more violence,” Fuddang said.
In a statement, he lamented the increasing loss of lives, revealing that over 20 people had been killed in just one week.
He also praised security forces for their swift response, which helped reduce casualties, and called on relief agencies to assist those affected.
The attack has forced residents of the affected communities and nearby areas to flee, fearing further violence.
The Plateau State Government condemned the killings, with Commissioner for Information Joyce Ramnap extending condolences to the victims and urging residents to remain calm.
She assured that security operatives were working to bring the perpetrators to justice.
