Ex-Senator Abbo accuses Akpabio of ruling Senate like emperor

Former Senator Elisha Abbo has criticized Senate President Godswill Akpabio, accusing him of running the upper legislative chamber with excessive authority.

Speaking on Prime Time, a program on Arise Television, Abbo condemned the suspension of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who was penalized for an altercation over her seating arrangement with Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension on March 6 included the withdrawal of her security detail and a halt in salaries and allowances for both her and her legislative aides.

Abbo argued that the decision put Akpoti-Uduaghan’s life at risk.

“Akpabio sat like an emperor and ordered her suspension, stripped her of security, and barred her from the National Assembly,” he said. “This essentially exposed her to harm.”

He further referenced Akpabio’s past conflicts in the 8th Senate, where disagreements were handled differently under former Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Abbo also dismissed the ongoing efforts to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the process as fraudulent and tainted with forged signatures.
