A Nigerian soldier identified as Sudik, has been apprehended after allegedly cutting off three fingers of a shoe seller, Abdulrahman Salisu, during a payment dispute on Sallah day.
The incident occurred at Abdulrahman’s shop located near Jolly Bread, close to the Obasanjo Shopping Complex in Minna, Niger State.
Abdulrahman reported that Sudik visited his store to purchase a pair of shoes, claiming he had made the payment through a bank transfer.
However, Abdulrahman stated that he had not received any confirmation of the payment.
The disagreement escalated quickly, and in a fit of anger, Sudik reportedly pulled out a cutlass and attempted to strike Abdulrahman, demanding the money.
In an effort to defend himself, Abdulrahman raised his left hand, which led to three of his fingers being severed.
As Abdulrahman shouted for assistance, Sudik, along with two companions, fled the scene.
The matter was promptly reported to the authorities, and Sudik was arrested by the police. Abdulrahman is currently receiving medical care at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.
This violent incident has heightened security concerns among local traders, particularly in areas such as Jolly Bread, Mobil Roundabout, and the Obasanjo Shopping Complex.
Many business owners have expressed alarm over the rising prevalence of violence, including armed robbery and thuggery, which they believe endangers their businesses.
Jolly Bread, a significant newspaper distribution centre in Minna, has also been affected by these security challenges.
Sales representatives and vendors have voiced concerns about the threat of criminal activity, which persists throughout the day and night.
In response to these growing safety issues, traders are calling on the Niger State government to enhance security efforts to safeguard their businesses and ensure the protection of all residents.
