The Enugu State Police Command has dismissed claims that any part of the state, including Eha-Amufu, has been invaded or placed under siege.
Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Wednesday, refuted an online report alleging that herdsmen had taken over homes and schools in the area.
Describing the report as “baseless and misleading,” he said it was aimed at creating panic among the public.
According to Ndukwe, the supposed farm settlements in question are temporary structures used by farmers who return to their permanent residences periodically.
While there were displacements due to farmer-herder clashes in 2021 and 2022, he confirmed that normalcy had since been restored through joint security efforts.
The police commended the Enugu State Government for bolstering security in Eha-Amufu, including deploying military personnel and special forces, constructing barracks, and developing key access roads.
Ndukwe criticized the publication for using outdated and unrelated images to misrepresent the situation, citing digital verification that showed the photos were from past incidents in other locations.
Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa urged the public to disregard the false claims and reaffirmed the police’s dedication to maintaining peace in the state.
He called on residents to remain law-abiding and report any real security concerns through official channels.
