The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
In its weather outlook released on Monday, NiMet stated that northern Nigeria would experience sunny skies with patches of clouds on Tuesday, while isolated thunderstorms could occur later in Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba states.
For the North-Central region, a similar pattern is expected, with possible thunderstorms in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi in the morning.
By the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms could also develop in Niger, Plateau, and Kwara.
In the South, early morning thunderstorms are likely in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, while isolated thunderstorms may occur later in states such as Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom.
By Wednesday, the northern region will have sunny skies with a few clouds, with thunderstorms expected later in Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Kaduna.
The North-Central region will follow a similar trend, with thunderstorms likely in the FCT, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau during the afternoon and evening.
In the southern part of the country, a mix of clouds and sunshine is expected, with morning thunderstorms in Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Later in the day, thunderstorms could develop in Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta.
On Thursday, the North will continue to experience sunny conditions with a few clouds, while isolated thunderstorms are expected in Taraba in the afternoon.
The North-Central region will see a similar pattern, with thunderstorms likely in Benue, Kwara, and Kogi later in the day.
Southern states will continue to have alternating sunshine and cloudiness, with morning thunderstorms expected in Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom. By the afternoon, thunderstorms may develop in parts of Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers.
NiMet advised residents to stay hydrated, avoid excessive sun exposure, and take precautions against heat stress.
The agency also recommended vaccinations against meningitis, maintaining proper hygiene, and avoiding crowded places.
To minimize risks from thunderstorms, the public was urged to be mindful of strong winds, while airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning.
