Lagos Assembly workers tender apology for assaulting DSS officers

Three employees of the Lagos State House of Assembly have publicly apologized to the Department of State Services (DSS) following their arrest for assaulting DSS officials during the recent leadership crisis at the Assembly.

The Assembly had invited the DSS for increased security, with a letter signed by Acting Clerk Babatunde Ottun on February 14, 2025.

The letter, referenced as LSHA/FAD/0/7554/323, formally requested DSS assistance starting from February 15.

However, when DSS operatives arrived at the premises, a confrontation broke out between some Assembly workers and the DSS officials.

The altercation led to the arrest of three individuals, based on CCTV evidence, and the DSS subsequently filed assault charges against them.

On March 28, 2025, Public Affairs Officer Ibrahim Olarenwaju, along with Sergeant-at-Arms officers Adetola Oluwatosin and Adetu Adekunle, submitted separate letters of apology to DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi.

The letters, sent through the Lagos State Director of Security, expressed regret and pledged a commitment to uphold better conduct moving forward.

Olarenwaju’s letter stated: “I hereby tender my unreserved apology for any act or omission that I might have caused your distinguished office (the DSS) and personnel in the course of my duty at the Lagos State House of Assembly on February 17, 2025.”

Earlier in February, Lagos State Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa also issued an apology to both the DSS and the Nigerian Police Force, condemning the attack on their officers as unfortunate.
