JUST IN: Labourer murders employer in Ondo over Kolanut theft

Must read

A labourer has allegedly killed his employer, 60-year-old Mrs. Adelugba, in Láòsò, a settlement near Laje Camp in Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Sources revealed that Mrs. Adelugba, a prominent farmer with three farms, had recently completed her house at Miracle Land, FFF, Ondo.

She had hired the labourer, who lived with her, to assist with farm work.

Trouble started last week when the labourer was caught stealing kola nuts from one of the farms.

Fearing banishment as per the village’s customs, he pleaded with her to keep it secret, promising to either repay the value or have it deducted from his wages.
Mrs. Adelugba reportedly agreed to this arrangement.

However, on Saturday, the situation took a violent turn. The labourer allegedly ambushed her on the farm, attacking her with a machete.

After killing her, he concealed her body with leaves and palm fronds before fleeing.

By Sunday, he reportedly confessed to the crime, stating that the deceased had been pressuring him to take responsibility for the theft.

He later led villagers to the scene, where her remains were retrieved and taken to the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMEDTH) mortuary.

Police confirmed that the suspect was initially held at the Fagun Police Division before being transferred to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Akure for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s family has been advised to visit the police headquarters on Wednesday for burial clearance.

The Ondo State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and assured that investigations are ongoing.
