Edo Governor vows compensation for families of slain hunters

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has assured the families of 16 hunters killed in Uromi that they will receive compensation.

AFRIPOST reports that the hunters were attacked by a vigilante group while traveling to Kano.

During a condolence visit to the victims’ families in Torankawa, Kano State, alongside Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano, Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to supporting those affected by the tragedy.

“We are making arrangements to provide compensation to all the families impacted by this unfortunate incident,” he stated.

He also commended the people of Kano for maintaining peace despite the situation.

“I appreciate the good people of Kano and the entire North for not resorting to retaliation,” he added.

The governor assured that those responsible would face justice and confirmed that 14 suspects had already been arrested. “We will ensure the case is pursued to its logical conclusion,” he affirmed.

Governor Yusuf, while offering prayers for the victims, emphasized his collaboration with Okpebholo to ensure justice is served.

“We are working together to see that all those arrested are prosecuted and that full compensation is provided to the affected families,” Yusuf said.

He further pledged cash and food assistance to the bereaved families and reassured them that the government would remain steadfast in securing justice for their loved ones.
