The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River has granted Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Peter Odey, an automatic ticket for the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, the party’s chairman, Alphonsus Eba, urged aspirants seeking political positions to commence their consultations.
He clarified that apart from the governor and his deputy, no other aspirant had been given an automatic ticket.
According to Eba, the party’s decision is rooted in the principle of continuity, emphasizing that “nobody changes a winning team.” He affirmed that the State Working Committee and the State Executive Committee unanimously agreed that Otu would be the party’s sole candidate in 2027.
Even if the governor hesitates to run, Eba stated that the party would still present his name as its only candidate, just as it did in 2022.
He urged Otu to heed the wishes of party members and accept the nomination.
The chairman also commended the deputy governor, currently acting as governor, for his support of President Bola Tinubu’s recent actions in Rivers State.
He criticized those who misrepresented the state’s stance and praised the acting governor for clarifying that South-South governors had not consulted him before opposing Tinubu’s decision.
Eba further lauded the president for ensuring stability in Rivers and preventing a political crisis.
