Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has assured her supporters that she will visit Kogi Central for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, despite a ban on public gatherings by the state government.
In a statement on Tuesday, her office dismissed circulating rumours about the cancellation of her trip, affirming that preparations were still in place.
“The senator remains committed to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents,” the statement read.
“There has been no official notice of cancellation from our office, and we urge the public to disregard false information.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan stressed that her position as a lawmaker required active engagement with the people and called on them to attend the celebrations in large numbers.
Her planned visit follows the Kogi State Government’s recent prohibition of public rallies and specific activities like fishing, citing security threats.
Officials linked the ban to recent fatalities in parts of Kogi West.
Commissioner for Information Kingsley Fanwo noted that intelligence reports warned of possible violent protests under the guise of religious and political gatherings.
The senator, who was suspended for six months following a disagreement over Senate seating arrangements, has also accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
