President Bola Tinubu has approved an extension of the tenure of Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), allowing her to remain in office until December 31, 2026.
The announcement was made on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
Nandap, who has been with the NIS since 1989, was initially appointed as Comptroller-General on March 1, 2024, with her tenure originally set to end in August 2025.
However, the latest approval extends her leadership for an additional period.
Onanuga highlighted that the NIS has made notable progress under Nandap’s leadership, prompting the president’s decision to prolong her tenure.
Quoting the official statement, he said, “President Tinubu commended the Comptroller-General for her exemplary leadership and urged her to continue dedicating herself to the Service’s strategic priorities, which align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The statement further emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening the Nigeria Immigration Service to enhance border security and facilitate safe and legal migration in line with the government’s broader vision for national development.
