Rivers crisis: Fubara’s chief of staff alleges N5bn bribery attempt for impeachment plot

Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has alleged that he was offered a N5 billion bribe in 2023 to support an impeachment move against his principal.

Speaking on a Channels Television program, Ehie claimed that the bribe was proposed in exchange for his role in removing Fubara from office.

Ehie, who served as a factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly until January 2024, insisted that he has verifiable evidence of the bribery attempt.

According to him, the details of the offer are stored on his phone.

“I can open my phone to show you. At the beginning of October 2023, I was approached with a N5 billion bribe. It is all here on my phone,” he stated.

He further asserted that the money was specifically meant to facilitate Fubara’s impeachment, adding that he had already documented and distributed the evidence as a precautionary measure.

“It was for impeachment. I have the proof. I have printed it and shared copies in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother,” he added.
