NSCDC seizes truck concealing 70,000 litres of stolen petroleum in Port Harcourt

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a container truck carrying 70,000 litres of stolen petroleum products in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

In a statement on Monday, the agency revealed that the illicit fuel was hidden in an inbuilt storage tank within the truck, a tactic often used to evade detection.

The NSCDC emphasized that the seizure was part of its broader efforts to combat oil theft and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta region.

The operation was carried out by the NSCDC Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, which has been actively targeting oil-related crimes.

Confirming the development, the agency stated: “NSCDC Commandant General Special Intelligence Squad impounds long container truck with 70,000 stolen petroleum products stored inside inbuilt storage tank in Port Harcourt.”

Oil theft and illegal refining remain significant challenges in Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta, where they have caused economic losses and environmental damage.

Security agencies have ramped up enforcement operations to dismantle criminal networks engaged in oil-related offences.

The NSCDC reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s oil resources and warned individuals involved in such illegal activities to desist or face the full force of the law.
