Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has filed a defamation lawsuit against former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, over allegations linking him to arson.
Ehie dismissed claims that he was involved in the fire that engulfed the Rivers State House of Assembly complex on October 30, 2023.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, he described Nwaeke’s accusations as unfounded and damaging.
“I had no involvement in the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly. I only learned about it when it was reported in the news,” Ehie stated.
He further disclosed that his legal team has initiated a case of criminal libel against Nwaeke, urging him to present evidence to support his claims.
“I will not engage in a back-and-forth with Mr. George Nwaeke because I have already directed my lawyers to file a criminal libel case against him. I hope he is ready to prove his allegations,” he added.
Nwaeke had earlier accused Governor Fubara and Ehie of orchestrating the fire during the state’s ongoing political crisis, fueling tensions within Rivers State’s political landscape.
Ehie’s legal action seeks to clear his name and hold Nwaeke accountable for what he considers false and damaging statements.
