Must read

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho celebrated his first goal for Middlesbrough, helping the team secure a 2-1 victory against Oxford United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors struck first, with Michal Helik scoring just before halftime to give Oxford United the lead.

However, Middlesbrough wasted no time responding in the second half. Within three minutes of the restart, Iheanacho found the net, converting a well-placed assist from Samuel Iling-Junior to bring his team level.

This goal marked a significant moment for Iheanacho, who was making his eighth league appearance under manager Michael Carrick.

His breakthrough on the scoresheet showcased his growing influence on the team’s attack.

As the match progressed, Middlesbrough intensified their push for a winning goal, which eventually came in the 80th minute when Neto Borges struck the decisive goal, once again assisted by Iling-Junior.

The victory lifted Middlesbrough to seventh place in the league standings, with 57 points from 39 games, boosting their chances of making the playoffs.

In contrast, Oxford United remains in 19th place with 42 points, leaving them at risk of relegation.
