Mr. Bernard Tyozenda Ortom, the younger brother of former Benue State Governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 3, 2025.
The 62-year-old passed away on March 19, 2025. In a statement issued by Sir Robert Faga Ortom on behalf of the family, details of the three-day funeral arrangements were outlined.
The funeral rites will begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, with a wake at his residence near Rameti School, off Gabriel Suswam Road, Nyorgyungu, Makurdi.
On Wednesday, April 2, his remains will be moved from Bishop Murray Memorial Hospital, Makurdi, to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Nyorgyungu, where a Requiem Mass will be held at 9:00 AM.
The procession will then proceed to Gbajimba, Guma Local Government Area, with brief stops at his residences in Nyorgyungu and Gbajimba before arriving at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Gbajimba, for an all-night wake.
The final funeral Mass is scheduled for 9:00 AM on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Gbajimba. At around 11:00 AM, his remains will be taken to Tse-Ortom Adorogo, Guma LGA, for burial.
Born on December 11, 1962, Bernard Ortom worked at the University of Agriculture, Makurdi (now Joseph Saawuan Tarka University) before his retirement.
