Ex-Presidential Adviser, Ojudu urges Tinubu to reconnect with reality, address national hardship

Must read

Former presidential adviser on political affairs, Babafemi Ojudu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to rise above sycophants and focus on tackling Nigeria’s economic challenges, urging him to rekindle his past ideals and build an inclusive government.

In a birthday message to the President on Saturday, Ojudu reflected on their past relationship as political allies, recalling the sacrifices they made in the struggle for democracy and good governance.

He urged Tinubu to channel the courage and empathy that once defined his leadership to address the growing hardship in the country.

“I remember when we sat together as friends, allies, and comrades in the struggle. The bonds we shared were rooted in a common vision for a better Nigeria,” Ojudu said.

He praised Tinubu’s past dynamism and problem-solving abilities, recalling how he once worked tirelessly to resolve conflicts and make bold decisions for the good of the people.

However, he insisted that while aging is inevitable, the fire that once drove the President can still be reignited.

“That kindness you showed as governor, that deep concern for the people—it’s still within you. Nigeria is in crisis. Please, try and try hard,” he urged.

Expressing concern over widespread economic hardship, hunger, and insecurity, Ojudu warned against surrounding himself with individuals who shield him from reality.

He encouraged the President to step away from the distractions, reflect deeply, and introduce policies that can uplift Nigerians from despair.

“The solutions are not far-fetched,” Ojudu noted, citing Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s economic blueprints as a guide Tinubu could follow. “The roadmap for development already exists. Study the past, adjust for today’s realities, and act.”

He also advised the President to assemble a truly national team, cautioning against regional bias or over-reliance on familiar faces from Lagos or the South-West. Drawing lessons from past leaders, he urged Tinubu to build a government that represents all of Nigeria.

“Lagos is not Yoruba, and Lagos is not Nigeria. Take a cue from Babangida and Obasanjo—they built Team Nigeria, not just a team from their regions,” he said.

Ojudu stressed that while politicians focus on elections, ordinary Nigerians are more concerned about daily survival. “For most people, what matters is not the next election but the next meal, the next hospital bill, the next rent, or the next school fee.”

He called on the President to govern with empathy and a sense of urgency, assuring him that genuine efforts to improve lives would earn him lasting political goodwill.

“If Nigerians see your sincerity and resolve, securing a second term—if that is your desire—will not be a struggle,” he said. “Let this birthday be your defining moment. Lead with justice, serve with humility, and build a legacy of selfless service.”

Ojudu concluded by urging Tinubu to focus on the impact he leaves behind rather than personal achievements. “When your time in office ends, let it be said that Nigeria was better because you passed this way.”
