I am safe in Abuja, my wife reading scripts —Ex-Rivers HoS debunks kidnapping fears

Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has dismissed his wife’s claim that he was kidnapped, maintaining that he traveled to Abuja of his own volition.

In a video message released early Saturday, Nwaeke refuted reports of his abduction, emphasizing that he willingly presented himself to security agencies due to recent developments in Rivers State.

“I arrived at TRANSCORP Abuja this morning from Port Harcourt to engage with security officials and report myself regarding the crisis in Rivers.

“My wife was misled into making that claim; she was given a script to read,” he stated.

He also addressed his wife’s public appeal, asserting that she had no role in his professional matters.

“My wife was never part of my official duties when I was in service. The statement she made does not reflect reality.

“I am free, I am safe, and I will continue to work with security agencies here in Abuja.”

However, Florence Nwaeke expressed growing fear over her husband’s situation.

“She explained that although he initially contacted her upon arriving in Abuja, she became suspicious after watching an online interview with him.

“When I saw the video, I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,’” she recalled.

Recounting her frantic efforts to reach him, she said, “I messaged him: ‘Are you under duress?

“Have they kidnapped you? Why aren’t you responding?’ But I received no reply. His numbers are no longer reachable. Nigerians, I need your help!”
