NSA raises security concerns over IMN’s planned Quds day procession

Must read

The Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) has issued a security alert regarding a planned procession by the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) scheduled for March 28, 2025.

The procession, set to take place in Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is intended to mark International Quds Day, an event expressing solidarity with Palestinians while also opposing the Nigerian government.

According to intelligence reports, IMN members from Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, and Plateau states have begun gathering at a camp in Rugan Juli, Karu, ahead of the Abuja procession.

Authorities feared that the demonstration could escalate into unrest, given the IMN’s history of violent confrontations with security forces.

Additionally, there are concerns that IMN elements may exploit the event to stage protests against U.S. and Israeli interests in several northern states, including Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Yobe, Adamawa, Sokoto, and the FCT.

In response, the NSA has directed security agencies to closely monitor the group’s activities and ensure heightened security around key diplomatic missions, particularly the U.S. and Israeli embassies in Lagos and Abuja.

Law enforcement agencies have been advised to implement strict security measures before, during, and after the procession to prevent any outbreak of violence.

The government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order while taking proactive steps to address potential threats.

Authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as efforts continue to prevent any disruption of public safety.
