A fire outbreak in the early hours of Friday ravaged a two-storey building used for storing textile materials on Ifejika Street, near Main Market on Sokoto Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Fire Service chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, stated that a distress call was received at 6:20 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters and four fire trucks to the location.
Chiketa assured residents that efforts were underway to control the blaze and urged the public to remain calm.
He noted that the fire had spread to nearby residential buildings, but firefighters were working tirelessly to prevent further damage.
He also appreciated the support of security agencies and members of the public who assisted in containing the situation.
Meanwhile, sympathisers were seen at the scene, helping to salvage goods from the affected building.
