Pressure group accuses APC of shielding Akpabio amid harassment allegations

The Action Collective (AC), a political advocacy group, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly protecting Senate President Godswill Akpabio from facing scrutiny over sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the group’s coordinator, Onimisi Ibrahim, raised concerns about the handling of the case, particularly highlighting the recent withdrawal of Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The judge reportedly stepped down due to external pressure, a situation the AC condemned as a serious threat to judicial independence.

“The only way to ensure fairness and transparency is for both Akpabio and Neda Imasuen to step aside and allow an independent investigation,” the statement read.

The group argued that the integrity of the legislature is at stake, emphasizing that a Senate unwilling to uphold ethical standards loses its credibility to oversee other branches of government.

Furthermore, the AC accused key figures of attempting to suppress Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claims, describing the case as part of a broader effort to silence her.

It called on civil society organizations and pro-democracy groups to demand accountability from the Senate leadership and ensure that justice is not obstructed.
