NYSC Coordinator advises female corps members to return home after service

Must read

The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has urged female corps members to return to their parents after completing their service rather than moving in with their boyfriends.

Speaking in Bauchi on Thursday during the distribution of National Service certificates to the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, Yakubu emphasized the importance of celebrating this milestone with family.

“Ladies, your boyfriends are not your parents,” she cautioned. “After receiving your certificates, go home and celebrate with your family.”

She also encouraged corps members to utilize the skills acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant.

“If you haven’t fully taken advantage of SAED, it’s not too late. Instead of being idle, find something productive to do. Use your final allowance wisely—consider investing in learning a skill,” she advised.

Yakubu further warned against engaging in criminal activities such as internet fraud, kidnapping, or ritual killings in pursuit of quick riches.

“These are not the values NYSC has taught you. Represent your family well and be a good ambassador for Nigeria, your institution, and the NYSC,” she added.

Additionally, she advised corps members to carefully review their National Service certificates for any errors before laminating them.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a total of 1,652 corps members completed their service in Bauchi State, comprising 1,118 males and 534 females.
