Group calls for apology from Senator Natasha over alleged misconduct

Must read

The Campaign for Democracy (CD) has criticized the conduct of suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, accusing her of actions that could damage Nigeria’s image.

The group claimed that instead of addressing her suspension through appropriate legislative channels, she has been engaging in a campaign against the Senate.

In a statement issued on Thursday, CD expressed concern over her recent activities, both locally and internationally, describing them as inappropriate.

The organization insisted that her actions amounted to misconduct and called on her to offer a public apology. It also urged political leaders to place national interest above political affiliations, especially on critical matters.

The group further condemned her attempts to associate her suspension with allegations of sexual harassment against the Senate President.

It argued that her attendance at the Inter-Parliamentary Union without official approval disregarded diplomatic protocols and misrepresented the country.

CD also voiced disappointment that despite seeking legal redress, Akpoti-Uduaghan has chosen to engage in media campaigns and international lobbying rather than allowing due process to take its course.

The group warned that such behavior could undermine democratic institutions and erode public confidence.

Additionally, the organization expressed support for the ongoing recall process initiated by constituents in Kogi Central, emphasizing that lawmakers must remain accountable to the electorate.

It reminded public officials that holding office is a responsibility tied to public trust and service.

CD called on Akpoti-Uduaghan to adopt a more constructive approach, uphold the integrity of her position, and contribute to national unity rather than fueling international disputes.

The organization also encouraged Nigerians to embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of political conflicts, stressing that personal interests should not be prioritized over the country’s reputation.
