The Kaduna State Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former ally of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Hajiya Maryam Suleiman, has distanced herself from the former governor, stating that his decision to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is a miscalculated political move.
She dismissed the SDP as an insignificant party with little influence, emphasizing her commitment to the APC. “I will not defect because I am a dedicated member of the APC,” she said.
Hajiya Maryam, who had previously been suspended for making critical remarks about Governor Uba Sani, has now apologized for her past comments.
Admitting that she acted out of ignorance, she described her earlier statements as immature and praised Governor Sani as a compassionate leader who has forgiven her.
“I did not fully understand the situation when I criticized the governor, but now that I do, I regret my words and have apologized,” she said in an interview.
Previously known as “Maryam Mai Rusau” due to her alignment with El-Rufai’s policies, she now identifies as “Maryam Mai Ginau” in support of Governor Uba Sani’s development agenda for Kaduna State.
Reflecting on El-Rufai’s tenure, she acknowledged that his administration made controversial decisions, including the demolition of markets and the dismissal of primary school teachers, which negatively impacted many people.
“In contrast, Governor Uba Sani is a leader who prioritizes the well-being of the people, regardless of whether he knows them personally. There is a clear difference between him and the former governor,” she said.
Hajiya Maryam also revealed that she has known Governor Sani long before he became a senator and described him as a compassionate leader who is always concerned about the welfare of the less privileged.
