Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed Arc. Dr. Henry Ojobo as the substantive Rector of Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, for a single tenure of five years, effective April 1, 2025.
A statement issued by Bartholomew Geraga, the Permanent Secretary of Government House Administration, confirmed the appointment, stating that it aligns with the recommendations of the Polytechnic’s Governing Council.
“Dr. Ojobo’s appointment is based on his outstanding academic and professional contributions to architecture, urban planning, and environmental sustainability.
“His leadership will be instrumental in driving academic and infrastructural transformation at the Polytechnic,” the statement read.
Dr. Ojobo, a renowned academic with over two decades of experience, hails from Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State.
He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Architecture from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Ph.D. in Architecture (Landscape Architecture) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
His extensive career includes serving as an Associate Professor at Kaduna State University, where he led the Department of Architecture and held the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
With over 50 peer-reviewed publications, his research has significantly contributed to the fields of architecture and environmental sustainability.
In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Ojobo is a registered member of professional bodies such as the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON) and the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA).
He has also led community development initiatives, including serving as President of the Rotary Club, Kubwa Gateway, during the 2022/2023 Rotary Year.
Governor Alia’s administration has prioritized revitalizing the education sector, particularly technical and vocational training.
His recent appointments are part of broader efforts to enhance institutional performance and educational standards in the state.
Stakeholders at Benue State Polytechnic have expressed optimism that Dr. Ojobo’s leadership will usher in a new phase of academic and infrastructural growth.
Meanwhile, as part of efforts to enhance the administration of Benue State Polytechnic, the institution’s Governing Council has approved the appointment of three new principal officers.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Damian Tersoo Anyam, the newly appointed officers, whose appointments take effect from April 3, 2025, include:
Dr. Sunday Apochi – Registrar
Mr. Kase Joseph Chihinen – Bursar
Mr. Antse Terfa Benjamin – Librarian
“The Governing Council is confident that these appointments will strengthen the Polytechnic’s administrative framework and improve overall efficiency in academic and financial management,” Dr Anyam stated.
He emphasized that alongside Dr. Ojobo, the new appointees are expected to work collaboratively to reposition the Polytechnic and ensure excellence in technical education.
Governor Alia’s government has remained committed to appointing seasoned professionals to key positions in the education sector, reinforcing his administration’s goal of making Benue State a hub for quality tertiary education.
