Two arrested over killing of Catholic Priest in Kaduna

Troops from Sector 7 of Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) have apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the abduction and murder of Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu in Tachira Village, Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to a statement issued by OPSH Media Officer, Major Samson Zhakom, the suspects were captured following a raid on the hideout of the prime suspect, 33-year-old Pate Yau, at a Ruga settlement in Warsa-Piti Village, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

During questioning, Yau reportedly admitted that he was hired to carry out the abduction by Douglas Henry, a man who lived in the same residence as the late priest.

Acting on this information, security forces tracked down and arrested Henry in Agwan Sariki Tachira, Kaura LGA.

Both suspects are now in custody as investigations continue.

Father Okechukwu, the parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachira, was taken from his home on March 4, 2025. His lifeless body was found the next day, Ash Wednesday, March 5.
