The House of Representatives has moved forward with a bill seeking to revoke the immunity from prosecution currently enjoyed by the Vice President, state governors, and their deputies.
Sponsored by Rep. Solomon Bob, the proposed legislation aims to amend Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, allowing these officials to face civil or criminal proceedings while in office.
If passed, only the President would remain shielded from prosecution.
The bill was one of 42 constitutional amendment proposals discussed during Wednesday’s plenary session.
It has been forwarded to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further scrutiny.
