Police Commissioner warns DPOs against extorting complainants

Must read

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, has cautioned officers, particularly divisional police officers (DPOs), against demanding money from residents before documenting their complaints.

Giwa issued the warning on Wednesday during a strategic meeting with senior officers of the command in Enugu.

He stressed that DPOs and other supervisory officers would be held responsible for any misconduct by charge room officers under their supervision.

He outlined various measures aimed at improving proactive and effective policing across the state and urged officers to implement community-focused and public-friendly policing strategies in their respective jurisdictions.

Reaffirming his zero-tolerance stance on unprofessional conduct, extortion, and corruption, the commissioner emphasized the importance of ethical behavior among officers.

“This strategic meeting aligns with the command’s commitment to promoting professional, proactive, and community-friendly policing across Enugu State,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by the command’s management team, area commanders, police mobile force squadron leaders, DPOs, and heads of tactical units within the command.
