The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s readiness and capability to address the country’s complex security threats.

Speaking at the opening of the inaugural Senior Command and Leadership Seminar in Lafia on Tuesday, Oluyede, represented by Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Sadiq-Ndalolo, Chief of Training at Army Headquarters, emphasized the importance of equipping senior officers with the necessary skills to handle evolving security challenges.

The event was organized by the Army 4 Special Forces in Doma, Nasarawa State.

Expressing appreciation for the sacrifices and dedication of troops in maintaining national security, the COAS assured them of continued support and improved welfare.

He also pledged regular training programs to enhance their operational effectiveness in combating insecurity.

He highlighted the significance of the seminar’s theme, “Enhancing Operational Level Command and Leadership within a Joint Environment”, in addressing prevailing security threats, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, militancy, terrorism, and communal clashes.

“The contemporary security landscape is defined by asymmetric threats, and the Nigerian Army must be prepared to confront these challenges head-on. Through innovative tactics and strategies, we will neutralize those responsible for unrest in the country,” he stated.

Acknowledging recent successes recorded by troops, he assured them of continued support, including the provision of modern military equipment.

“We plan to establish a standard Special Forces training school in Doma and ensure the availability of necessary combat training equipment across the country. I urge all personnel to remain dedicated to the core values of discipline, professionalism, and selflessness,” he added.

Maj.-Gen. Hilary Nzan, Commander of the Army 4 Special Forces, Doma, noted that the seminar aimed to equip personnel with the expertise needed to navigate today’s dynamic security landscape.

He also highlighted ongoing collaborations with other security agencies to tackle threats, particularly in border communities.

“The Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate any security threat against the nation,” he affirmed.

Governor Abdullahi Sule also commended the military and other security agencies for their role in maintaining peace in Nasarawa State.

Represented by his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, the governor pledged continued support, including the provision of operational vehicles and logistics, to enhance security efforts in the state.
