Residents of Kogi Central have reaffirmed their commitment to the ongoing effort to recall suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stating that misinformation and propaganda will not deter them.
Under the umbrella of the Kogi Central Grassroots Movement, thousands of constituents from the district have declared that her time in the Senate was a mistake they are determined to correct.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the movement’s Coordinator, AbdulHameed Jimoh, and Secretary, Mohammed Abdullahi, alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters were distorting facts to mislead the public about the recall process.
According to the group, the senator has lost the backing of even her former allies, as her tenure has been marked by personal interests rather than the welfare of Kogi Central.
They also criticized her public statements regarding her suspension, arguing that her claims against the Senate President had caused embarrassment at the international level.
Additionally, the group accused her of staging recent public engagements to create an illusion of widespread support.
They alleged that non-residents were brought in to boost the numbers of those backing her.
The movement further argued that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s actions had subjected Kogi Central to unnecessary controversy, emphasizing that recalling her was necessary to protect the district’s image.
They insisted that no responsible electorate would allow their senatorial representation to be compromised without taking corrective measures.
Criticizing her decision to take her grievances to international organizations like the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the group stated that her actions were an attempt to discredit Nigeria.
Since she has refused to resign, the people are resolved to remove her, the statement added, while urging media outlets to scrutinize the narratives being promoted in her favor.
The movement dismissed allegations that voters were bribed or manipulated into supporting the recall, insisting that Kogi Central residents are politically aware and capable of making their own decisions.
