POS operator killed in Adamawa, police arrest suspect

Tragedy struck in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa State, as a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator, Abbas Yuguda, was brutally murdered while returning home from work.

The attack occurred on March 22, 2025, when a group of assailants armed with dangerous weapons ambushed Yuguda, inflicting severe head injuries and leaving him in a pool of blood.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, officers from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Police Headquarters arrived at the scene and immediately rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital in an attempt to save his life.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

In the wake of the killing, some angry youths pursued one of the suspected attackers, identified as Umar SNU.

He was subjected to mob violence before police intervened, rescuing him and taking him to a hospital for treatment. He is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

Condemning the attack, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, assured the public that the culprits would face justice.

“This senseless act of violence will not go unpunished,” CP Morris said.

“We have launched a thorough and discreet investigation to track down all those responsible. I also urge residents to refrain from mob justice and allow the law to take its course.”

The Adamawa State Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies as investigations continue.
