Natasha denies apologizing to Senate, stands firm on position

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has refuted claims that she apologized to the Senate over the circumstances that led to her suspension.

In a statement released on Monday, she described the reports as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that she remains unwavering in her stance.

“The claims that I have apologized to the Senate and withdrawn my position are completely false. I stand by everything I have said and have not issued any apology to the Senate or any individual regarding this matter,” she stated.

Akpoti-Uduaghan accused those spreading the misinformation of attempting to manipulate public perception and distort the truth.

The senator, who was suspended following a dispute with Senate leadership, reiterated her commitment to defending the rights of her constituents.

She also alleged that there were deliberate attempts to silence her voice through false narratives.

“I urge the public to disregard these misleading reports. My dedication remains to truth, justice, and the people I represent,” she added.

She further expressed concerns over what she described as efforts to undermine democratic principles, insisting she would not be intimidated or pressured into submission.

“This is beyond me; it is about the integrity of our democracy. I will not be silenced by fabricated stories or coercion,” she declared.

In light of her suspension, there have been calls for her recall from the Senate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently confirmed receipt of a petition seeking to initiate the recall process.

The move to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan follows her heated disagreement with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements.

She has also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, a claim she has taken to both local and international platforms, including the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Reaffirming her commitment to transparency, she advised Nigerians to be cautious of misinformation, stating that any official communication from her would be released through her verified channels.

“I appreciate the unwavering support of my people. Rest assured, I will continue to fight for justice and fairness,” she assured.
