Must read

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has initiated an investigation into a jailbreak at the Federal Correctional Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State.

Kingsley Fanwo, Kogi’s Commissioner for Information, revealed that at least 12 inmates escaped from the facility.

He stated, “Security operatives have re-arrested one of the escapees, while efforts are ongoing to recapture the others.”

In response, Tunji-Ojo, through his media aide Alao Babatunde, described the incident as “unfortunate.”

He assured that all escapees would be tracked down using advanced biometric and technological systems.

The minister also directed Sylvester Ndidi, the acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, to visit the correctional facility, evaluate the situation, and carry out a full assessment.

“We are on top of the situation. Our men are on the ground in Kogi, and I have ordered a comprehensive audit of the situation,” Tunji-Ojo added.

Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has instructed the state’s security adviser to work with the correctional service and other security agencies to enhance security measures and prevent future breaches.

He urged residents to remain calm, stating that “security agencies are in control of the situation.”
