Ex-Jigawa Gov slams Seyi Tinubu’s ramadan charity in the North

Sule Lamido, former governor of Jigawa State, has spoken out against Seyi Tinubu’s Ramadan food distribution in northern Nigeria, calling it an “insult” to the region and its people.

Criticizing the gesture during a Ramadan Tafsir on Sunday, Lamido questioned its implications, saying, “Is this how to govern or promote good governance?”

He described the initiative as degrading and politically motivated, adding, “What Tinubu is doing to the northern people is an insult.”

Referring to the North’s historical pride, he stated, “Arewa, which produced great leaders like Aminu Kano, Sardauna, Tafawa Balewa, and many others, is now being reduced to a region where people are only given cooked rice.”

Lamido urged northerners to resist what he called an attempt to “belittle” them, emphasizing, “It is up to us to unite and resist this humiliation or fold our hands and allow an outsider to come to our region and belittle us.”

Seyi Tinubu’s distribution of food packages—some bearing his father’s image—has been met with skepticism, with many believing it to be more of a political stunt than a humanitarian effort.
