Wike serving Nigerians, not APC – PDP chieftain

Dan Orbih, the South-South National Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dismissed claims that Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike is working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He clarified that Wike is serving the Nigerian government rather than any political party.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Saturday, Orbih explained that Wike sought and received permission from relevant PDP organs before accepting the ministerial appointment under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“He is not working for APC; he is working for the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Orbih stated.

He revealed that Wike formally notified the PDP South-South zonal executive, which met in Port Harcourt and unanimously endorsed his appointment as a national service call.

Similarly, the Rivers State chapter of the PDP, along with his ward and local government chapters, also gave their approval.

“There was no organ of the party that opposed his decision to serve. Even the PDP Governors’ Forum, after their first meeting, sent a delegation to congratulate him,” Orbih added.

He cautioned against political parties alienating their members, emphasizing that Wike’s role in the current administration should not be a source of controversy.

“When he was invited to serve, he informed every critical organ of the party, including the Board of Trustees, which later met with him at his official residence without raising any objections,” he said.

Orbih also insisted that political affiliation should not dictate personal relationships, affirming his close friendship with Wike.

“At my age, no political party can tell me who to be friends with. My friendship with Nyesom Wike, a hardworking and dependable person, remains intact,” he concluded.
