Fire destroys 51 homes in Yobe, displaces hundreds

A massive fire outbreak has swept through Mirwa ward in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State, leaving widespread devastation.

The blaze, whose cause remains unknown, engulfed 51 houses, killed 85 livestock, and affected about 301 residents, forcing many families into homelessness.

Victims have lost their belongings and livelihoods, with urgent needs for shelter, food, and clothing.

The incident follows a recent warning from the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA), which had urged residents to avoid open flames due to an increase in fire outbreaks across the state.

The agency emphasized that the dry season poses a heightened risk and advised extreme caution in handling fire-related activities.
